Reflecting on a year past

FROM IDEA TO ART PRINT

We all need inspiration and when it comes to the creative world of art I’m no different. Some people trawl the racks of shops, visit galleries and admire other peoples art work. I’ve never been one for over analysing other peoples work because it over shadows my own creative inspirations. That said I get on my trusted bicycle and cycle around the streets of London. It brings me much joy and breaks off the shackles associated with working.

The natural world, be it man made in London, gives me a feast for the eyes. I love admiring the architecture, fashions and natural light that nature provides. Once I’ve found my desired location my gut feeling kicks in that I can’t be alone in seeing its beauty. Having taken multiple photographs as inspiration this is the foundation for my future drawings and paintings. In the ideal world I would sit in situ, but instead get comfort in the privacy off my own studio. We all have our cross to bear and being watched and scrutinised is like social torture. That said I’m probably my own worst critic never completely satisfied and therefore come back to paintings and drawings weeks later with fresh eyes.

A common question I get asked is how long does it take to paint or draw a scene. This is like asking how long is a piece of string. I regularly watch TV shows where they put the artist under strict time constraints. I find that extremely daunting and almost disgraceful because the whole experience should be a fun journey. It’s not about reaching the destination but the routes we take. And this is no different to life. If we didn’t make mistakes and explore we wouldn’t be the people we are today.

BERMONDSEY STREET FESTIVAL 2022 CANCELLED

We were all excited about the the Bermondsey Street Festival and after weeks of preparation couldn’t wait for the big day. But like many people were shocked and saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II. It was with great disappointment that the event was cancelled but we hope that the organisers will be arranging a future event for 2023 which will be bigger and even better. It’s a fantastic local occasion for the area and they have our full support.

Tiger Millie

TIGER MILLIE

I feel I should mention the little fur baby which we have adopted. Her name is Tiger Millie and she is around 11 years old. This gorgeous black cat, a Bombay breed has a lovely temperament. She has been a real inspiration over the past year and half and extremely affectionate. Having never been a cat lover I confess she has melted my heart and is a little character worthy of a mention.

Tigers Likes:

  • A warm radiator in winter.

  • Tickle under the chin.

  • Being kept company.

  • Lactose free Milk.

  • Sleeping under a blanket.

  • Play time.

Dislikes:

  • Being left alone.

  • Medicine.

FROM LOSS TO PERSEVERENCE

Not wishing to over shadow this years progress it has not been an easy one with the loss of my father back in September. I felt he deserves a mention in this blog for all the support he has given over the years. Having battled heart issues our thanks goes out to the ‘British Heart Foundation’ and ‘Bournemouth Hospital’ for all the hard work they have done. Plus the support my mother has given to my dad.

If one is fortunate one has people who champion ones cause and support you through the dark times and celebrate the good together. My father was one of those people who always shared proverbs to reflect on. And with that “for every hurdle, persevere and you will find a solution. Nothing comes easy in life but with hard work you will achieve your goals.”

A phrase that probably sums my father up perfectly by Frank Sinatra
