Battersea Art Prints & London Riverside Memories
Battersea is a part of London that quietly reveals itself the more you explore it. While many people immediately think of Battersea Power Station and the dramatic transformation of the riverside, some of the area’s most memorable locations are often the quieter streets, hidden corners and local spaces discovered away from the main tourist routes.
I first found myself exploring Battersea properly while cycling through London with my camera and sketchbook, taking routes and side streets that I would never normally experience by car or public transport. That sense of freedom often leads me towards locations I wasn’t expecting to find, and Battersea Square immediately stood out to me in exactly that way.
There was something about the atmosphere of Battersea Square that felt very local and authentic. Surrounded by cafés and restaurants, it had the feeling of a hidden London community that people only truly discover once they live nearby or spend time exploring the area properly. It wasn’t crowded with tourists or trying to attract attention. Instead, it felt calm, welcoming and naturally woven into everyday London life…….

‘That quieter side of Battersea is something I find particularly inspiring as an artist.’
Beyond the famous landmarks, Battersea also offers beautiful riverside views, elegant architecture and moments of nostalgia beside the Thames. One scene that especially stayed with me featured St Mary’s Church Battersea alongside the Montevetro Building overlooking the river, with a solitary boat resting along the riverside edge. There was a timeless atmosphere to the location that immediately felt cinematic and emotional, almost like discovering a hidden piece of London quietly existing beyond the busier parts of the city.
When creating Battersea artwork, I’m always looking for those moments where architecture, perspective and atmosphere naturally come together. Cycling through London often allows me to discover viewpoints and compositions that feel more personal and less expected — places where the streets suddenly open up, where the river catches the light or where old and new London quietly sit beside one another. Unlike many artists, I’ve never been particularly interested in simply capturing the most obvious tourist view of Battersea Power Station. The iconic chimneys naturally dominate the skyline and have become symbolic of the area itself, but I’ve always been more interested in how the neighbourhood continues to evolve around them.
When creating my Battersea Power Station pencil drawing, I deliberately chose a viewpoint from the newer riverside developments rather than focusing purely on the landmark alone. While one of the famous chimney stacks remains visible within the composition, what truly fascinated me was the extraordinary architecture of the Battersea Roof Gardens development itself. The layered apartment structures almost reminded me of homes climbing the hillsides of Rio de Janeiro — modern, ambitious and visually striking, yet still woven naturally into the riverside landscape of London. There is something futuristic and cinematic about the way the buildings rise and connect together, creating a completely new identity for Battersea while still respecting its industrial past. For me, this scene perfectly captures the transformation of modern London. It reflects not only the architectural ambition of the area, but also the excitement of watching new London landmarks emerge around older icons we already recognise so well. I genuinely believe that in years to come, these newer Battersea developments will become just as visually symbolic of the area as the Power Station itself, and that made the scene feel like an important moment in Battersea’s continuing story to capture through drawing.
‘For me, Battersea represents discovery’.
It captures the excitement of exploring London beyond the obvious landmarks and finding neighbourhoods that still feel connected to community, creativity and riverside London life. The area blends industrial history, modern architecture and quieter residential charm in a way that feels both elegant and deeply lived in. That emotional connection is what I hope people feel when they bring one of my Battersea art prints or original London paintings into their home. For some collectors, the artwork may reflect memories of living in Battersea, walking beside the Thames or spending time in Battersea Park and the surrounding riverside streets. For others, it represents the feeling of discovering a part of London that feels peaceful, stylish and quietly full of character.
This collection of impressionist London artwork and pencil drawings celebrates Battersea not simply as a location on the map, but as part of London’s constantly evolving story — where hidden streets, riverside memories and everyday moments continue to inspire the people who experience them.
