Waterloo Art Prints & South Bank Memories
Waterloo is one of London’s great meeting points, filled with movement, theatre culture and the everyday rhythm of city life. From Waterloo Station and the South Bank to hidden streets like The Cut, the area blends creativity, work and social life in a way that feels uniquely London.
For many years, I wanted to paint or draw The Cut, but I never quite found the right angle. One summer afternoon, standing near the Old Vic Theatre, I looked across and saw crowds of people gathered outside one of the bars at the entrance to the street. Suddenly the whole area felt alive.
That moment became the painting. It wasn’t just the architecture that inspired me, but the atmosphere created by the people — friends talking after work, office workers gathering together and the energy of London life unfolding naturally in front of me.
For me, Waterloo represents movement, creativity and those unexpected moments where an ordinary London street suddenly becomes cinematic and memorable.
Although the Waterloo collection currently features just one painting, it captures the social energy and theatre atmosphere that make the area so distinctive within London life.
