Interestingly, when I first began painting London, Tower Bridge was actually one of the locations I tried to avoid painting. It felt too obvious.’
I knew so many artists had already painted it from the classic tourist viewpoints, and I wanted to experience and capture it differently. Instead, I became more interested in painting Tower Bridge from the perspective of someone who genuinely lives nearby — through the quieter streets of Shad Thames, beside the canal boats, along the riverside walkways and through the atmosphere locals experience every day.
‘That local perspective continues to shape my Tower Bridge artwork today.’
Rather than simply focusing on the landmark itself, I’m often drawn to the atmosphere surrounding it — the reflections on the River Thames, the changing evening skies, the surrounding docklands architecture and the way Tower Bridge unexpectedly appears at the end of a street or beyond the old warehouse buildings nearby. I’m fascinated by those moments where London suddenly reveals something grand and unforgettable within an otherwise ordinary scene.

Living in Bermondsey and walking regularly through Shad Thames, the bridge becomes woven into the experience of the neighbourhood itself.
